So you know what you are buying, this page describes what a report contains and links to a real example once one has been published.
An example report
[an example report has not been published yet]
We do not publish a made-up report. An example appears here only once we have a genuine report we are permitted to share, with the vehicle and the customer removed from it.
What every report contains
- The vehicle you asked about — the registration exactly as you entered it, and the date the research was carried out.
- Check by check findings — for each source we are licensed to use, what the record said.
- What could not be checked — any check that was unavailable for your vehicle, named, with the reason. A missing record is reported as missing, never as a pass.
- The sources used — the same list published on our data sources page, as it stood on the day of your report.
- Who prepared it — the report is written by a member of our team, and the report says when.
How to read it
A report tells you what the records we can reach say about a vehicle on the day we looked. It is evidence to take into a decision, not a guarantee about the vehicle, and it cannot cover a record we have no access to. Where that matters for your vehicle, the report says so in plain words.
Our sources and their limits are set out on the report data sources page.
Know what you are buying. The report says what was found, and what could not be checked.
